Duck!

Friday, July 13th, 2007 — 11:48pm (PDT)

A duck is standing on the sidewalk in front of Stay Tuned Automotive just down the street, looking possibly lost and confused. It appears to be an adult female, but I saw neither mate nor chicks—she was just standing there by herself. I want to help her, but I am not sure what it is that she needs. To find her mate, her chicks, or her other duckish company? To find a pond or a stream? To have something to eat and drink to rejuvenate herself for flight? Ducks are fairly common in Santa Clara—we even have some duck-crossing signs—but the hour is late, the sky is dark, and I am concerned that if this particular duck does not get whatever she needs soon, she may fall victim to an incautiously driven vehicle.
