I seem to have a special talent for breaking bowls while washing them in the kitchen sink. This morning, I managed to break one I was not even holding—one that was resting, apparently safely, on the dish rack next to my sink.
I accidentally (it is always accidentally) let slip from my slippery hands a small bowl, which bounced off the edge of a somewhat larger medium-sized bowl on the dish rack and survived unscathed, possibly due to hitting the larger bowl with the rim at the base, where it is thickest. The larger bowl was not so lucky: its upper rim, which was oriented downward as I had the bowl upside-down to drain, chipped under the blow.
I wish dish-washing machines did their work better so I could keep my dishes safely out of my hands as much as possible.
